Plants + Passion
What do you currently make?
I make a range of energetic and herbal plant medicines and natural plant based perfumes, mists and face oils. The plant medicines include flower essences, herbal teas, creams, ointments and tinctures.
How did you get into this?
I started my business two years ago while studying to become a Naturopath (I’m just about to switch over my degree to become a Herbalist instead as this is where my passion lies) as I wanted to help others experience the amazing healing power of nature. I’m also a hands on learner and I knew that if I was in the creative process of creating products and working directly with people in this area I would learn more than just sitting in a classroom or reading books. My passion for reducing chemicals and using plant medicine for healing first came about when I was pregnant with my first daughter 12 years ago. Since then it’s become part of my purpose in life, to help others have a deeper connection to nature and their own bodies with mindfulness, whole food and plant medicine.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
My favourite part would be creating flower essence blends for individuals and seeing the changes take place in their lives and how that then ripples out to their loved ones. I also love creating new flower essence blends and experimenting with new and exciting herbal tinctures and teas. Yesterday I whipped up a beautiful batch of Rose & Calendula hand and face cream and I can’t wait to share that with more people. It really is the making and creating then the sharing with people that bring me so much joy.
Why is organic/chemical-free food important to you?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 34 and it really woke me up to how toxic our environment is. Even though I had already reduced chemicals from our skin/beauty products and cleaning products, it hadn’t fully made its way to our kitchen and the food we ate. Living in small towns had also made that a bit difficult at the time. I was never the gardening type and my husband was working long hours plus I had two small children, so growing our own wasn’t even on the radar. Fast forward 8 years and I insist on eating organic, spray free or from our own garden 95% of the time. My health and the health of my family is the most important thing to me. I also highly value self responsibility. We can sit here and wait for the government, the farmers or someone else to do something about the state of our food system or we can spend our money with local and organic businesses who value the same things as us when it comes to health, wellness and environmental sustainability.
What’s your favourite meal?
My favourite meal would have to be a big bowl of veggies from Spray Free Farmacy (mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, parsnip, Brussel sprouts, garlic, ginger, turmeric) cooked in lots of olive oil and butter, with a good amount of Gutsy Smoked Garlic Sauerkraut and a good sprinkle of hemp seeds, sesame seeds, pepitas and sunflower seeds plus some avocado and goats cheese on top or an Echo Valley fried egg. I could eat that for breakfast, lunch or dinner! In winter a mug of bone broth on the side makes a lovely addition.
