Green Drop Organics

Local organic farmer with box of produce grown without chemicals in Mount Cotton

Meet Ian Burow, the heart and hands behind Green Drop Organics, a small family-run farm in the lush countryside of Mount Cotton. Ian is on a mission to grow clean, nutritious food without the use of chemical sprays.

At Green Drop Organics, they grow a variety of produce including avocados, mangos, lychees, and sprouts like alfalfa and broccoli, all using organic and biodynamic principles. Ian’s life’s work is to share his knowledge with younger generations, teaching them the art of growing nutritious, chemical-free food. He also welcomes visitors to the farm, offering educational tours for those curious about sustainable farming practices.

Recently, we had a quick chat with Ian to learn more about his story and why he chose the sustainable farming path. We hope you enjoy!

How did you get into farming?

I’m a 5th-generation farmer right here on the same family farm at Mount Cotton.

What do you enjoy about your work?

I love learning how to work with nature. Every season is different, and it keeps you on your toes.

Why did you decide to farm without chemical sprays? How important is this to you?

Working without chemical sprays is a non-negotiable for me because I can see how chemicals have destroyed our soils. I have worked with Nutri-tech for many years and done lots of soil tests, so I’ve really seen first-hand what a problem we have created by using chemicals.

What challenges has this created for you, and how do you overcome them naturally?

Farming without chemicals comes with its fair share of challenges, but I’ve learnt that Mother Nature always provides the best solutions.

What’s your favourite meal?

Nothing beats a basic, home-cooked meal with meat and veg.
