Meet Ange & Steve Pennell from Scenic Rim Organics!
Tucked away in the heart of The Scenic Rim, just minutes down the road from the scenic shores of Lake Moogerah, you'll find Angela and Steve Pennell’s farm. This isn’t just any farm - it’s surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, nearby hiking trails, and sparkling waters, making it a pretty special spot to grow some of the best produce around.Angela and Steve’s passion for the land runs deep. With much of their farm already certified organic, they’re working toward full certification, growing, picking, and packing all their vegetables by hand. For them, every day on the farm is about nurturing the land, providing quality food, and doing it all with that stunning mountain backdrop… talk about your dream office!
How did you get into farming?
Steve: I’ve been farming since I finished high school. It’s been my life’s work, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!What do you enjoy about your work?
Ange: No two days are the same! Each day brings its own challenges and little victories, and we’re always learning.Why did you decide to farm without chemical sprays? How important is this to you?
Steve: After too many years as a conventional farmer, I knew there had to be a better way. It’s so important to us to keep things as natural as possible.
What challenges has this created for you, and how do you handle them naturally?
Ange: Well, we’ve learned to live with a few weeds and the occasional grub! If the bugs want a nibble, it must be good. We take it as a compliment!
What’s your favourite meal?
Angela and Steve: Silverbeet and feta cheese pie, served up with a big stir fry of fresh veggies from the garden.
