Mario Giacosa

What do you currently make/farm/supply?
I'm a Stanthorpe apple farmer and currently grow apples, pears and some stone fruit.

How did you get into it?
I was born into it. Both my parents and grandparents were apple farmers. I have been farming for 31 years myself and still learning. My son is pretty keen to follow in my footsteps and often helps me after school.

What do you enjoy about your work?
I enjoy producing a healthy, nutritious piece of fruit and supplying that very fruit to our wonderful consumers.

Why is organic/chemical-free food important to you?
It is important for my family's health and my own health as we are living and working in this environment everyday. I even go as far as making my own fertiliser.

What challenges has this created for you and how do you overcome them naturally?
It varies from season to season and I still have to sometimes turn to an agronomist for advice.

What’s your favourite meal?
Pasta, lasagna, gnoochi (Italian food to match my ancestry)
