Meet our dedicated Primalista, Tash!
Is there anything more heartwarming than a fresh loaf of home-baked bread? At Primal Alternative, that’s their bread and butter! Their products aren’t mass-produced by profit-focused big food companies – they are homemade with love by Primal Alternative Producers (Primalistas) all around the globe. Helen Marshall started Primal Alternative in 2017, and has since helped over 185 Primalistas across 4 different countries create their own successful home-based baking business in a collaborative community.
At Spray-Free Farmacy, our dedicated Primalista is Natasha Tully, a passionate baker from Camp Mountain. Every loaf that comes out of Tash’s oven is organic and grain-free with no nasties. Natasha's journey into the world of gluten-free and health-conscious baking began out of necessity and blossomed into a thriving business. After years of struggling with food allergies, she discovered Primal Alternative and began crafting their incredible recipes in her kitchen. Read all about her journey below…
Can you tell us a bit about your business? How did you get started?
After many years of being allergic to gluten and having been diagnosed with arthritis, I tried Primal Alternative products and not only did they taste delicious, but they contained no nasty ingredients or additives and I had no pain after eating them. I decided that I needed to bake these to give people healthier options.
How do you make/grow/produce your product? What is your process?
Using quality ingredients, I bake in my fully licenced kitchen.
What do you love about your work?
I love being involved in baking these products when I get great feedback from customers saying how much they love eating the breads and that it’s making a huge difference to their health
How important is making organic/sustainable products to you?
Very important! Quality ingredients make quality products. Primal Alternative also uses compostable cellophane bags to package the breads.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A fresh Paw paw salad.
Could you tell us an interesting/quirky fact about yourself?
I was a chef many moons ago! I’ve always loved cooking and baking, so I did a four-year cheffing apprenticeship until I got diagnosed with a type of arthritis, which started in my feet and ankles. This made being on my feet for 8 hours a day difficult. Since my diagnosis, I’ve been on a path of finding natural ways to make me better only to find out it was about the food. Since this realisation food has become my life with trying everything under the sun diet-wise to help with pain. That’s how I found Primal Alternative. Grain-free is my way of alleviating the pain and it also helps with gut health which is all part of it. It’s a journey I never imagined I’d take, but I’m grateful I did and still do. It’s a daily habit now along with exercise.
If you were a fruit or vegetable, which one would you be and why?
Apple: because I’m versatile and reliable, and there are a variety of sides to me—plus I’m a bit of a health nut!
