Hi Foodies!
Can you believe today is ANOTHER public holiday! I hope you're all enjoying the long weekends. It's also the start of the last week of autumn which means the weather should start getting cooler - time to up the ante on your immune boosting efforts for winter.
To help you out, we have a number of really awesome specials this week - staples like Apples, Bananas, Pineapples and Oranges are all down in price. If you, or friends your know haven't yet made the switch to organic - show them these prices and they'll wonder why they haven't done it sooner!
I'm currently listening to a book called Stolen Focus by Johann Hari (I love to read but the truth is, like most people, I have a whole shelf full of unfinished books - I've nearly finished this one so it must be good!). In it, Johann investigates the reasons we, as a society, have lost our ability to focus. Did you know our collective attention span has been shrinking drastically over the past 50 years?
On some level I think we all know this - we have all experienced increased demands on our time, increased distraction and switching between tasks (our brains really do not have the ability to multi-task!). Did you know it takes the average person 23 minutes to refocus on the task they were attempting to complete after being interrupted?
Johann explores the multitude of causes for our loss of focus and of course one of the causes (which we can help with) is pollution and more specifically - pesticides. He explores how poor diets and food coated in chemicals is effecting our brains and deteriorating our ability to focus. This is particularly concerning for children and is often a significant factor with kids diagnosed with ADHD.
So, if you want to improve your focus (and your kids') - a good place to start is by taking a good look at the chemicals you're being exposed to. Nourish and protect your brain and then you can start to focus on the other things you may need to change to create the life (and focus) you really want.
I can highly recommend this book to provide some great insights - although it may make you want to throw away your phone and escape to the wilderness with some good books!
