In Australia alone, approximately 7.6 million tonnes of food are wasted each year. According to End Food Waste Australia, the statistics surrounding food waste are staggering: one-third of all food is wasted around the world, while one in five Australians regularly go hungry. What's more, food that is left to rot in landfills produces methane, which is 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide. In light of these shocking figures, it's clear that action needs to be taken to combat food waste and its detrimental effects on both the environment and society.
